tis a privilege to live in Colorado
Colorado sports teams get little or no respect outside of the state. Colorado teams have produced some wonderful athletes over the years, from the old Denver Bears baseball team, the Colorado Rockies NHL team, who became the Jersey Devils, the Broncos, the Avalanche, the Nuggets, and even the Colorado Rockies MLB team. Add to this list college sports from CU, DU, Colorado College, CSU, Northern Colorado, and even some of the smaller schools like Mesa, and Western. It took John Elway until the last two years of his career to get the respect on a national level that he deserved. Another wonderful athlete that gets no respect is Carmello Anthony. This young man has been overlooked for the NBA allstar squad for no other reason than he plays in Colorado. Anthony is not mentioned in the running for MVP although the Nuggets would not be nearly as good without him and his amazing talents. The list goes on and on, ie, Gary Zimmerman, Todd Helton, Rod Smith, and even Joe Sakic to some extent (Canada respects him), even coaches such as Sonny Lubick. Lubick was one of the best defensive minds at the University of Miami and was forgotten when he came to CSU. Colorado fans are some of the most loyal in sports and can be depended on through thick and thin, but even they don't get any respect outside the area. I read a lot of posts from people who feel that Colorado teams are to be taken lightly and laughed at with a wink and a dismissal. Those of us who are lucky enough to live in this great state appreciate what we have, and those who don't know anything about Colorado just forget about us. A newspaper man once wrote, "tis a privilege to live in Colorado", and its the truth.
